                           Sidney Albert Luke Lodge - Whence Come We?

    Who Was Most Worshipful Brother Sidney Albert Luke?
    He was initiated into Doric Lodge No. 58, Ottawa, on October 4th, 1889.  He was Worshipful
    Master for two years, 1893-94, District Deputy Grand Master of the Ottawa Masonic District 1904-
    05, member of The Board of General Purposes of Grand Lodge, 1906, Deputy Grand Master,
    1910 and Grand Master for the years 1915-17.

    What Was the Initiative to Form This Lodge?
    During the last year of the First Great War, and after its successful conclusion by the Allies, there
    developed a great increase of interest in Freemasonry, and several Masonic Lodges in Ottawa
    because taxed almost beyond capacity by applications for membership.

    How Did It Start?
    The untimely death of most Wor. Bro. Sidney Albert Luke, PGM, in November, 1918 prompted a
    group of zealous Masons to study the prospects of forming an additional Masonic Lodge in
    Ottawa to perpetuate the memory of this distinguished Mason.

    When Did It Happen?
    The ceremony of Constitution and Consecration was performed at the meeting of October 6th,
    1920, by Most Wor. Bro. F.W. Harcourt, K.C., Grand Master, together with Rt. Wor. Bro. E.S.
    McPhail, District Deputy Grand Master and many Grand Lodge Officers.
